Pope John Paul II on Saint Josemaria

St Josemaría was chosen by the Lord to announce the universal call to holiness and to point out that daily life and ordinary activities are a path to holiness. One could say that he was the saint of ordinary life. In fact, he was convinced that for those who live with a perspective of faith, everything is an opportunity to meet God, everything can be an incentive for prayer. Seen in this light, daily life reveals an unexpected greatness. Holiness is truly within everyone's reach. (October 7, 2002.

Vancouver Archbishop on Saint Josemaria

On January 9 2002, then Vancouver Archbishop Msgr. Adam Exner celebrated Mass at Holy Rosary Cathedral on the occasion of Saint Josemaria's one hundreth anniversary. The following is an excerpt from his homily.

Saints are not people who plan and organize their particular style of life and perfection, and follow it strictly on their own strength. Saints are people who love and trust God to the point that they let him guide them and lead them where he wants. From his youth and throughout his life, Blessed Josemaria allowed God to guide him and shape his life. And the theme of his prayer was always “May what you desire, and not what I want, be done.” Blessed Josemaria did not plan his life; he always had God for his guide.
